How to choose the right implants for your breast augmentation

breast implants If you’re thinking about getting breast augmentation surgery, you will find you will have lots of decisions to make to achieve the look and feel you desire. Here, we take a look at implant types and placement for fuller, larger breasts.

Types of implants

Our office offers round and anatomic implants, both of which offer great results. Round breast implants are used in most breast augmentation surgeries as they are somewhat easier to use and provide excellent results. Round, smooth implants are a little softer and less palpable than other implants.

Anatomic implants are textured implants so they don’t spin around when they are inserted. These implants may be more desirable for certain patients who have concerns such as a narrow rib cage or wanting to exhibit their side muscles called the intercostals and serratus.

Implant placement

The implant placement is important, especially for women who bodybuild. Many women worry about how lifting will impact their breast implant and if it will move or rupture. While these are not typical occurrences, our recommended placement of implants is under the pectoralis major chest muscle. This makes the appearance of the implant much more desirable. In patients who have very low body fat, this is the ideal placement as the implants tend to be more obvious when placed over the muscle.

Placing the breast implant under the muscle means there is more tissue between the implant and the outside world, which makes it less obvious. Your implant will be squeezed by the muscle, but implants are designed to take the pressure.

It’s important to understand that breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. You may need to replace them at some point. Their appearance will change over time due to aging, pregnancy, and other factors.

Breast augmentation surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgery performed in the United States each year and can be combined with other procedures to achieve the contours you desire.
